May 2004--The Umatilla Municipal
Airport, in response to a need for greater security at the airport,
has installed an access control and security system upgrade that
includes state-of-the-art access control, gates, fencing and a
vehicle monitoring system. The web-hosted access control system
provides “real-time” information for airport management,
identifying staff and all vehicles accessing the airport. The
airport’s consultant, Passero Associates, managed the selection
and installation of the system. The system itself totaled $40,000,
and new fencing and gates were $225,000. The system was completed
in March 2004.
This project is unique for General Aviation
airports in Florida because of the high-tech monitoring system
installed. The system, which was designed by Brivo, and is monitored
by ADT, is completely wireless and allows airport officials to
monitor all airport activities from a standard web browser. The
monitoring system is completely automated and all of the monitoring
software and data regarding access to the airport is housed and
maintained on a mainframe in Alexandria, Va., which allows the
system to be implemented with little or no training for City employees.
This system is fully customizable by the airport and can send
a page or e-mail notification to any device with an IP address
when any unauthorized access (or other event as defined by the
City) to the airport is detected by the system. Airport managers
in other states which use this system have reported high levels
of satisfaction.
